As the heart of the Garden Island Defence Precinct, HMAS Kuttabul's primary role is to provide administrative, training, and logistics support to Defence personnel employed within the Sydney area. Garden Island itself has hosted a naval base since 1856. Kuttabul is home to Fleet Support Unit – South East, which conducts maintenance on ships and submarines, along with the Skills Development Centre, where newly trained technicians undertake consolidation training and competency progression.
Design & Significance
Design & Significance
Every element of this coin's design carries symbolic weight, true to naval tradition:
- Saltire Shield & Waratah — the red waratah, New South Wales' official floral emblem, sits at the centre of a white saltire on blue, marking Kuttabul's home in Sydney.
- Rope Roundel — the encircling rope border represents a strong, unbreakable bond — a symbol of loyalty and security.
