Originally known as the RAN Wireless/Transmitting Station Canberra, HMAS Harman was officially commissioned on 1 July 1943. The base provided essential communication services for Allied forces deployed in the Pacific region during World War II and was also the birthplace of the Women's Royal Australian Naval Service, formed on this site in 1941. Today, Harman enables Defence-wide communications, cyber, intelligence, and information warfare capabilities.
