FAQ: Custom Cap Orders
Custom Cap FAQ
Everything you need to know about ordering, designing, paying for, and receiving your custom cap.
Ordering
Who can buy a cap? +
You must currently be a serving Defence member, or working under the Defence Force (e.g. APS employees, non-service groups). PAs are eligible to request caps on behalf of a Chief, division, fleet, or unit.
Is there a minimum order quantity? +
No, there's no minimum order quantity for caps.
What is the custom order process? +
Cap already in stock: We gather the required information, then contact the supplier for a design mock-up — usually embroidery on the back for titles, or oak leaves on the brim. Production takes only a couple of weeks once approved and paid.
Cap not in stock: Artwork or a reference photo is sourced and sent to Navy Brand for approval before the supplier produces a mock-up. Standard turnaround is 8 weeks once approved and paid.
What is the timeline for caps? +
- Response/Quote — 2 business days
- Supplier mock-up — 1 week
- Navy Brand approval — 3 business days
- Invoice — 2 business days
- Production — 5–8 weeks (once payment is received)
Design
Do I need to supply artwork? +
If you don't have artwork, you can send a photo of a reference cap or describe what you're after — we can source the artwork through ADF Brand or Navy Brand.
Are your caps compliant with Navy/ADF regulations? +
Yes. All our caps are Navy Brand and ADF Brand approved and comply with uniform regulations. We cover all cap categories, including commissioned establishment ball caps, commissioned ship ball caps, commissioned/non-commissioned diver ball caps, commissioned squadron ball caps, submarine ball caps, crewing division and minehunter coastal ball caps, non-commissioned ball caps, non-commissioned submarine ball caps, and generic ball caps.
All Navy caps are produced to the following specifications:
- Heavy brushed cotton/polyester-cotton blend
- 6 structured panels
- Navy blue PMS 289 colour
- Antifade proof
Who approves the design? +
Both in-stock and custom mock-ups go to Navy Brand for approval — with any necessary adjustments made — before a formal quote is sent to the customer.
Payment
How does payment work? +
Once the quote is accepted, an invoice is drawn up and emailed to the customer. No caps go into production without payment.
Can I pay over the phone? +
Yes, our finance team can take payment over the phone. Please specify this when approving the quote.
Shipping
Can I get my cap delivered to a café? +
Yes — if any divisions or units would like caps supplied to one of our cafés, the same process applies, and we can waive the delivery fee.
Will you supply our caps to your venues? +
Yes, we're always open to stocking new cap designs at our venues. Get in touch to discuss your requirements and availability.
Are there additional fees? +
Embroidery and shipping fees apply on top of the quoted price.
